Adelaide creative and specialist animation agency Motion by Design has been recognised for its contributions to public health with a Supplier Innovation Award as part of the 2021 SA Health Supplier Awards.
The awards, which form part of the SA Health Annual Supplier Conference, recognise and thank suppliers who have assisted SA Health in providing healthcare and education to all South Australians.
Motion by Design was recognised for its collaboration with SA Health and the Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health (CEIH) in providing animation and communication strategy across a state-wide rollout of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient reported experience measures (PREMs).
The award was presented by South Australia’s Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Stephen Wade, who said that Motion by Design is to be commended for their collaborative efforts with CEIH.

Jarrad O’Brien Executive Director of Human Centred Design & Innovation at CEIH said that collaborating with Motion by Design meant creating two pieces of animation that were fundamental to the rollout of the state-wide educational program.
The CEIH is rolling out PROMs and PREMs to capture patient perceptions of their own healthcare and the impact of their conditions on their lives by using questionnaires. They are tools that enable healthcare providers to measure patient experience and health outcomes to improve care.
Motion by Design delivered two animated explainers for the state-wide rollout of PROMs and PREMs, including a patient-facing video and a clinician-facing video. The use of animation helped to distil these programs in a concise and informative manner, easily communicated and translated for a large audience.
Motion by Design’s Managing and Creative Director Dom Legg said the agency is a small team that is proud to be able to supply big projects for the State Government.
Project brief
Create an effective communication strategy for the roll-out of the PRMs (Patient-Reported Measure) program for South Australia.
The communication strategy will be led by animation s and the script that Motion By Design creates for them.
The animations must be informative to help people understand why it is important that the hospital system in South Australia has such services.
Scope of work
Create 2 short animated videos providing information about PROMs & PREMs. Motion by Design has 6 weeks to script, illustrate and animate the two videos and any required cut-down version .
Solution
Motion By Design created two scripts for CEIH based on the required outcomes.
Outcome 1 – For clinicians to register interest and sign up to the program
Outcome 2 – Build patient awareness about what PROMs and PREMs are and encourage involvement in the program by highlighting the benefits of patient-centric care
